School Resource Officers (SROs) are law enforcement officers assigned to Liberty High School. They work closely with the school administration, comprising of Principal Bolan and Dean Foundry, to implement strict security measures which they deem is for the "safety" of the Liberty High students.

History[]

Students of Liberty High School return from winter break to a drastic change. Security measures have been implemented; metal detectors have been placed at the entrance of the school building accompanied by armed school resource officers (SROs). Jessica’s far from happy about this, especially when she walks through the metal detector and her bra sets it off making one of the male SROs tell her she needs a pat-down. Jessica refuses and storms off towards the principal’s office, where she lodges a complaint about the lack of consideration for female students. She demands there be female SROs for screenings. Principal Bolan seemingly agrees to this, reassuring her that they should work together to make this school a safer place and that her input as student body president is just as important.

At the Future Fair, an SRO breaks up the fight between Diego and Clay. Diego ends up with detention since they think he started the fight.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The show raises the issue of police brutality when one of the school's SROs targets a student of color, Diego Torres, and used excessive force against him whilst the other party in the conflict, Justin Foley, gets away without an arrest. This is meant to demonstrate an unjust system at an institutional level; systemic racism is very much a prevalent problem in the US specifically. The Student Riot, which follows the incident, also demonstrates the protests currently happening across the US.
