Personally, I think that having a whole series dedicated to someone who committed suicide is kind of sick. I understand it’s a big issue, but seriously?

If after 2 seasons you still think it's a story about one person, and call it sick, then maybe you should get a doctor's appointment for yourself have your sickness treated.
It is so it can bring awareness to the situation because no one talks about it and it is showing that if someone was to do that it hurts the people you love and care about also they give you a site to go to so you can get help
It’s called raising awareness
At this point it’s not just dedicated to this one girl who committed suicide; it has much more going on. There’s different stories, backgrounds, issues etc. Not only does it raise awareness for suicide it raises awareness for sexual assault, ptsd, addiction just general mental health. In my opinion it portrays different issues while staying with a plot that keeps people interested. That is why 13 reasons why is such a great show (and book).
