I also believe in second chances, but his character development looked a bit rushed and unrealistic to me. He is a serial killer and in season 1 and 2 he looked like a sociopath to me. I believe it's possible to make a switch like that when you listen for example to the tapes but why not earlier? When the girl you're raping is crying, don't you realize what you're doing is wrong? Or when a girl you assaulted kills herself? Or when she cries in front of the court telling about how you raped her? I don't believe the tapes could have more effect than these things. I believe not all rapists are 100% evil, just like bullies who are insecure and start hurting other people to make them feel better about themselves. But how they portrayed it in this series, it didn't seem right. His regret and the hate he has for himself seemed genuine and sincere, but it didn't fit in the story for me. But after all I did feel bad that he didn't get the chance to make up for what he did and have a lifetime of learning what sorry means.
