There's something that happened in the season 2 ending that really bothered me and I feel like not enough people are talking about.
In the ending of season 2, during the Spring Fling, Jessica had sex with Justin in... was it the changing room? Now, normally, this wouldn't be notable to me, and if the sex was all there was to it, I wouldn't have even bothered making a post about it. But here's the thing. While Jessica was having sex with Justin... she was on a date with Alex.
I don't remember exactly if it was THAT episode or some episode before it, but some time before the Spring Fling, Jessica officially got back together with Alex, even giving him a full on-the-lips kiss to seal the deal. She explicitly stated she and Alex were a thing (I don't remember the exact wording). Yet when she went to the Spring Fling, she had sex with Justin. And in season 3, she kissed Justin BEFORE she had broken up with Alex.
You see what I'm getting at here? I'm going to stop beating around the bush and just go ahead and say it. Jessica cheated on Alex with Justin. That is an objective fact. There's really no other way of seeing it. She confirmed to Alex that they were in a romantic relationship, then kissed and had sex with Justin before she broke things off with Alex.
I was actually hoping that this was come up as a plot point in season 3, but it wasn't. No light was brought to how awful Jessica's actions were. She just broke up with Alex and got with Justin, and blam, that whole plot line was forgotten before it even had a chance to start. Why even show her doing that if they're not going to address it?
From what I've seen, a lot of fans ignore this because they ship Justin x Jessica (and occasionally Alex x Zach). I mean, shipping that is fine. Ship whatever you want; I won't judge (personally, I don't have any Jessica ships). But we shouldn't just ignore what she did and how wrong it was, especially not for the sake of some ship. I feel like if Jessica x Alex was the popular ship of the fandom rather than Justin x Jessica, then a lot more people would notice how awful this is. I heard someone on Reddit mention that someone on Beyond the Reasons tried to justify Jessica's actions with the "your body, your choice" rhetoric. You can make the choice, but that doesn't mean every choice is right. It's not like she was just having sex with Justin. She was messing around with him while she was dating Alex. It's straight up infidelity, and it shouldn't be downplayed or justified.
Now, don't get me wrong. I get why Jessica broke up with Alex. The relationships definitely wasn't going to work out, especially with how entitled Alex was in regards to sex. And I get that Justin knows her body better and that she has feelings for him. But that doesn't mean it was okay for Jessica to cheat on him like that. She should've just been open and honest with Alex and broken up with him properly rather than going to have sex with Justin while continuing to drag out their relationship.
I get it. Jessica Davis is the symbol of sex and strength that a lot of people love, and Justin x Jessica is a beloved ship. But we can't just ignore what she did. We can't just treat it like it was right. She cheated on Alex. There's no denying that. And I feel like it's about time she gets called out on it.
