13 Reasons Why Wiki

Barry Walker is a recurring character in the second season and a minor characters in the third season of 13 Reasons Why. He is portrayed by Jake Weber.

He is Bryce Walker's father, Nora Walker's ex-husband and a successful hedge fund manager and pillar of the community. He also fathered an illegitimate daughter named Caitlin, whom he started seeing and accepting as his child, to replace Bryce after disowning him following his trial.

Early Life[]

He attended, just like his son, Liberty High School as a child. About 12 years ago, he had an affair and the mistress got pregnant of a girl, Caitlin, which he kept a secret.

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

Barry Walker and his wife are on a vacation in Ibiza mentioned by Bryce Walker on a phone call with his mother. Barry is also later shown in a family portrait with Nora Walker and Bryce.

Season 2[]

Barry Walker first appears when Gary Bolan is showing him and his lawyers the school's sports fields and what they're changing. Barry asks Mr. Bolan if the trial against the school won't be a distraction.[1]

When Chlöe Rice stays over for dinner, Barry says she's a great girl and that it's important that she's loyal. That's also what he had told Bryce before he dated Chlöe; to find a loyal girlfriend so it would look good in trial.[2]

Barry is sure that Bryce isn't a rapist, and nothing seems to be able to convince him. When Nora is skeptical towards Bryce, Barry blames her for not knowing the boy they raised.[3]

Season 3[]

Barry Walker and Nora divorce due to Barry's reputation being destroyed per the trial and Bryce's allegations. In the 1st episode it is mentioned that Barry left a letter saying Bryce had to live with his mother and Barry does not respond to his calls. Later on Barry pays Bryce 50,000 a month just to stay away from him. In a flashback Barry and Nora discuss divorce matter and is shown that Nora's father Harrison Chatham favors Barry for so much they have in common. Chatham consults with Barry on which companies to drop and invest in. After Barry leaves Chatham calls Nora a "fool" for not treating Barry with proper respect and calls him a "fighter, a climber that man is, self made". In another flashback Bryce and Nora see Barry in an restaurant with his new girlfriend Katya and asks Barry to meet up with him in the club like they used to do in the past. Barry who no longer wants to be associated with Bryce lies and says he is headed to Dubai for a few weeks. Katya further on says they bought a new house Barry always had his eye on. Bryce know hating on his father decides to trash Barry's house along with Alex later realizing they broke in the wrong house. It is not shown but later Bryce breaks into the right home of Barry's and trashes. A day later Barry walks into Nora's home and his furious due to the damages that Bryce caused were worth 20,000. Barry and Bryce get into a fight which is stopped by Nora who is confused on why they were fighting. Barry tells Nora everything, Nora doesn't believe it but Bryce admits it was true. Barry threatens to sue Bryce but Bryce says if Barry does that he will expose his cover up of Caitlin. Barry says that Bryce will regret and leaves not knowing that will be the last time Barry will Bryce alive.

After Bryce's death Barry doesn't seem to care at first but mourns his son during the funeral. He is later upset when girls protest the funeral.

Personality[]

Barry doesn't believe that Bryce is a rapist. When his wife Nora asked him if he was sure about it, Barry replied that it was just a story, kids were jealous of Bryce and that he knew the son they raised. He also believed that he was set up when the last tape was recorded by Clay. During the third season, he was shown to be very selfish and cruel. He tried to get Bryce out of his life completely, because him being associated with his son made him look bad. Which ended up hurting Bryce a lot because he looked up to his father and wanted approval. After Bryce was killed, he acted like Bryce's funeral was a happy celebration. Much to Nora's disgust. Though he did cry during her speech and later was upset at the girls for protesting his funeral.

Physical Appearance[]

Barry has brown/gray hair and sometimes a beard. He is seen wearing suits in every episode.
