Mrs. Down is a recurring character in 13 Reasons Why. She is portrayed by Maria Dizzia.

She is Tyler Down's mother and Mr. Down's wife.

Throughout the Series[edit | edit source]

Season 1[edit | edit source]

Mrs. Down came to get Tyler to go to his deposition. She asked Tyler if he's sure he doesn't want a lawyer to come to the deposition because he's already getting bullied. At Tyler's deposition, she seemingly had a hard time listening to her son describing the bullying he endures.[1]

Season 2[edit | edit source]

Mrs. Down disagreed with Tyler having to be the first one to testify, but Tyler told her it's fine and he wants to be the first.[2]

She walked in on Tyler blasting punk music. She questioned it, just like the 'asshole' shirt he was wearing. The neighbor had told her he saw him and Cyrus shooting guns, so she confronted Tyler about it. Tyler lied and said it was just a BB gun from Cyrus. She told him how he knows what she think about guns.[3]

Mr. and Mrs. Down found out that Tyler and Cyrus have been blackmailing Marcus Cole. They banned him from spending time with Cyrus and confiscated his electronics and camera's.[4]

She and her husband were invited to Gary Bolan's office to talk about Tyler's vandalism. Principal Bolan told them that they are going to refer Tyler to a diversionary program for kids that need behavioral guidance. They thought it is unfair that Cyrus only gets suspended for a few days and confronted Cyrus' Dad about Cyrus being a bad influence on Tyler.[5]

After Tyler's first day back at school, she asked him how it went. Tyler lied and talked about how great it was. Mrs. Down was happy to hear that and told Tyler how proud they are.[6]

Season 3[edit | edit source]

When Clay and Tony brought Tyler home after his attempted shooting at the school dance, Mrs. Down greeting him with a hug and told him that she was worried as she had received a text about a shooter at the dance. Mrs. Down told Clay and Tony that they could stay the night.[7]

Mrs. Down entered Tyler's room to tell Tyler to keep his door open. She noticed Clay and invited him for dinner. At dinner, Mrs. Down told the boys that she worries for them after Bryce Walker was found dead. She also complimented Clay for being a good friend to Tyler and making a difference in his life.[8]
