HEY 13RW FAM! Are you excited about Season 4, the final season of 13 Reasons Why which drops on June 5th? Here is a short recap of Season 3 before you get started on Season 4! This is our final goodbye to this amazing series!
Events of Season 3 happens 8 months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling. Bryce is dead! Clay is the prime suspect. We have a new girl at Liberty High, Ani Achola. Lot's has happened, and a lot more is about to happen!
Clay Jensen[]
After stopping Tyler from the mass shooting that he was about to do at the Spring Fling, Clay along with Tony take Tyler to safety. Clay is the main suspect in the death of his classmate and enemy, Bryce Walker. There are many shreds of evidence that make him a prime suspect. Although he has a deep hatred for Bryce, he—along with new girl Ani Achola—plays detective in trying to figure out who killed Bryce. While the police have their eyes on him, the two uncover secrets of their friends and ultimately discover Bryce's killer. Justin is now living with the Jensens and is a brother-like figure to Clay.
Ani Achola[]
Amarowat Anysia "Ani" Achola, is the new girl of Liberty High School, the girlfriend of Clay Jensen and a member of Hands Off Our Bodies. She forms close relationships with the main characters and narrates the season. She goes through each of the characters' motives and actions while narrating the story to Deputy Standall in an interrogation room regarding Bryce's Murder. Bryce and Ani develop a friendship that also turns into a romantic and sexual relationship before his death. Throughout the season, Ani befriends and protects Clay and people in his group. It was unclear if she would be a part of S4 since Bryce's grandfather died at the end of the S3, and her mother, a home health care nurse, was only employed to take care of him. But it has been announced that she will be a main character in S4.
Jessica Davis[]
Jessica is the student body president, she co-founded H.O. with Casey Ford for sexual assault survivors in the school. Throughout the season, she learns to become comfortable with being in her body by trying out masturbation for the first time and then having sex with both Justin and Alex. After Bryce is announced to be dead and his death is treated as a murder case, she becomes one of the main suspects as he is her rapist and she was seen by Ani confronting him in his house. She revealed that she talked to Bryce but didn't kill him although later it is revealed that she was a witness and accessory to him being killed.
Justin Foley[]
Justin is released from Juvie and lives permanently with Clay and his parents, he came back to Liberty High and is back on the football team. He helps Clay with helping Tyler Down recover after he attempted a school shooting. Justin finds out Bryce is dead and becomes a suspect to Clay and Ani in his murder. They believe that Justin had killed Bryce after Clay found drugs that were prescribed to Bryce. Justin revealed that Bryce had helped Justin out with dealing with Seth Massey. Justin discusses his drug addiction with Bryce. Bryce gave Justin Bryce's own prescribed Oxycodone Hydrochloride—an opioid medication used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain—to help Justin stay away from heroin and have more control over his addiction.
Bryce Walker[]
Per his probation, he was shifted to Hillcrest High School. He was singled out and occasionally bullied there. Karma perhaps. The plot of Season 3 revolves around Bryce's death. He is shown to start to transition into a better person before he dies. The Evergreen County Police Department confirmed that it was a homicide. It was revealed in "Let the Dead Bury the Dead" that he had both his legs broken and right arm dislocated by Zach Dempsey out of anger because Bryce crippled Zach, and then pushed into a river by Alex Standall-not before being confronted by Jesica and Alex-after being helped up by him because, Alex realized that even though Bryce attempted to reform himself, he threatened Zach and he had already managed to hurt everyone he loves. He had a short affair with Ani. Bryce also recorded a tape, admitting to raping her, Hannah, Chlöe Rice, and other girls. He tried to make his amends but you can't change things that messed up with just an apology.
Alex Standall[]
Alex, along with his friends, helps Tyler Down recover after Tyler's attempt at a school shooting. His relationship with Jessica becomes rocky after she broke up with him and went back to Justin. Alex is also a drug addict. Alex has his huge secrets that he tries to keep hidden until they get uncovered by new girl Ani Achola and Clay Jensen as they play detective in a murder case of one of their classmate. He murdered Bryce Walker.
Tyler Down[]
Tyler works through his trauma in the third season. Clay gathers the group together to help take care of Tyler while he recovers, which Zach Dempsey wants no part in as he believed Tyler had become a psychopath. Tyler joins Jessica's group that is determined to dismantle the rape culture at Liberty High, as an ally. Tyler works up the courage to tell Clay that Monty raped him and they share an emotional hug. Clay and Tyler talk after their hug and Tyler reveals to Clay that the only other person who knew about it was Bryce Walker. Tyler shares his trauma with Jessica Davis after Clay says that she would understand considering she was also raped and working through her trauma. He shows her a video that he made before he planned to go through with the shooting, in which he confesses what Monty did to him and says goodbye to his parents, whom the video was meant for.
Montgomery de la Cruz[]
The main antagonist of the third season. Well, big news, He is gay! Didn't see that coming. He's eventually arrested for his assault on Tyler Down and stands up to his abusive father for the first time. The group subsequently pins Bryce's murder on Monty to protect Alex Standall after being informed that Monty's dead, killed in his jail cell hours before. Though she's sorry that both Monty and Bryce are dead, Ani convinces Deputy Standall to let Monty take the fall as he and Bryce hurt a lot of people in their lives and they should "let the dead bury the dead." As a result, Clay Jensen is exonerated and most everyone believes Monty to be the culprit. Season 4 revolves around Monty's death.
Other Characters[]
That's not the end. Chlöe Rice is pregnant. She gets an abortion with the help of Zach. Courtney Crimsen, was Student body president the year before Jessica became the same. Casey Ford, another victim of the rape culture at liberty high and a member of Hands off our Bodies. Initially, she did not like Tyler until his secret was revealed. Winston Williams the guy we seem to hate right now. Boyfriend to late Monty, he is running around trying to find justice for Monty, because on the night of Bryce's death, he and Monty were having sex.
So that pretty much sums it up. This blog post covers only the key information that might be needed for you to catch up on S04. Stay home, Stay safe!
